HOME INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE SURGERY
*DIABETIC PATIENTS: please call our office Saskatoon Oral Surgery Phone Number 306-652-9454 for your IV sedation / pre-operative instructions.
If you are having IV sedation and local anesthesia (dental freezing) for your surgery, please follow these instructions:
- Please do not eat or drink anything (including water) for 8 hours prior to your surgery.
- Please bring a responsible adult to accompany you to the office. They will be asked to remain in the office during your surgery and drive you home.
- Please do not smoke for at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to your surgery.
- Please do not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following IV sedation as you are considered legally impaired.
- Ideally, you should have someone that can stay with you after your surgery for a few hours.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, as well as comfortable, flat shoes such as running shoes.
- Earrings or any piercings in the lip or tongue may be required to be removed prior to surgery. Dentures must be removed at the time of your surgery.
- Please ensure that the denture/retainer to be used at your surgery is with you or arrangements have been made to have this delivered to our office prior to your surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or upset bowels, please notify the office 24 hours before your surgery.
- If you take routine oral medications, please check with our office for instructions prior to your surgery.
- If you are scheduled to have a dental implant surgery, please do not wear any makeup to your appointment.
- Please bring your SK health card with you at the time of your appointment.
